ROL SPORTSCAR CHALLENGE Oulton Park, 28 June 2003 Richard Chamberlain took a comfortable victory in the Cheshire countryside. Having put his fearsome orange Porsche 935 clone on pole, he drove away from the field in commanding style to win by over 40 seconds.
Rupert Lewin (Porsche 996GT2) was Chamberlain’s closest opposition. A wet test on Friday was Lewin’s only time in the car at this circuit, leaving him a lot of learning to do as well as trying to get on terms with the season-long pacesetter. A steady drive to second overall was his reward. Third contrasted markedly with the order at head of the field. Once again, Alan Cosby was embroiled in a tremendous battle with a Porsche. Mark Butler got the jump at the lights and powered his ex-Spanish GT 993RSR into third ahead of the Ferrari. At the ten-minute mark, Cosby had reeled Butler back into striking distance. Nose to tail, the pair circulated for the best part of the remaining fifteen minutes. As the battling duo encountered back markers, Cosby forged through at Island with just over five minutes to go. Butler fought back hard, but was unable to retake the final podium position and Class B honours.Several guest cars joined the field as a result of the BARC’s excellent race organisation and co-operation. Our thanks to them for accommodating us so favourably within their timetable. View Qualifying and Race Results in Acrobat
